FUEL – Festival of New Zealand Theatre is an outstanding national arts event that showcases the ingenuity, inspiration and diversity of New Zealand theatre.

The 2006 program included sixty- four performances by twenty-five companies including the ground-breaking Pacific Island theatre company The Conch production of Vula, the chamber opera, The Prodigal Child, A House Across Oceans directed by Christian Penny, and the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts commission- King and Country.

The Festival hosted, in association with Playmarket New Zealand, the Aotearoa Playwrights Conference, bringing together New Zealand’s master playbuilders and theatre innovators for a week of development workshops.

The FUEL 4 Youth program offered a full range of theatrical experiences to students in the region with major productions in the Festival are also available as exclusive school matinees. The Festival also included the STIR– a youth-theatre commissioning project for emerging talent in the theatre arts.
