FUEL – Festival of New Zealand Theatre is an outstanding national arts event that showcases the ingenuity, inspiration and diversity of New Zealand theatre.

The 2002 program included fifty –two performances by twenty-two companies including the world premiers of Indian Ink Theatre’s The Pickle King and Love’s Stories featuring Royal Shakespeare Company alumni Barbara Ewing and James Laurenson, New Zealand Festival commissions The Worlds Wife directed by Miranda Harcourt and James K Baxter’s poetry set to song in Baxter – featuring leading songwriters Dave Dobbyn, Martin Phillips, Emma Paki, Mahinarangi Toker and pre-eminent NZ poet Sam Hunt (CNZM, QSM).

The FUEL 4 Youth program offered a full range of theatrical experiences to students in the region with major productions in the Festival are also available as exclusive school matinees.The Festival also included the STIR– a youth-theatre commissioning project for emerging talent in the theatre arts.
