FUEL – Festival of New Zealand Theatre is an outstanding national arts event that showcases the ingenuity, inspiration and diversity of New Zealand theatre.

The 2000 program included forty performances by nineteen companies including Witi Ihimaera seminal work Woman Far Walking, The Candlestickmaker by Indian Ink Theatre, the award-winning Bonflute Ivi Ivi by Mau Dance, the theatre design exhibition, Landing – created for the 1999 Prague Quadrennial, the premiere of the new play Blossom devised by Theatre Stampede and featuring Alison Wall and a new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the New Zealand Actors Company.

The Festival also included the STIR– a youth-theatre commissioning project for emerging talent in the theatre arts.
